We recently fitted outdoor blinds in Revesby that turn an open alfresco into a room the whole family can use. The job used Zipscreen Extreme screens to close in a poolside entertaining area. With the blinds down, the space is shaded, private and protected from the wind. With them up, it opens straight back out to the pool and garden.
The home is in Revesby, in the Canterbury-Bankstown area. The owners had a lovely alfresco by the pool, but it was open on the sides. That made it hard to use on windy days, in the afternoon sun, or when they wanted privacy from the neighbours. Outdoor blinds were the simple fix.
This was an outdoor blinds project. The alfresco and pool were already in place. What the space needed was a way to close in the open sides without losing the view or the light.
We fitted Zipscreen Extreme blinds across the open edges of the alfresco. The screens run down from a neat 160mm headbox and sit inside side tracks. When they are down, they wrap the space in a soft, even screen. When they are up, they tuck away out of sight.
The result is one flexible outdoor room. The family can open it up on a still, sunny day, then close it in when the weather turns or they want more privacy.

The owners came to us with a short, clear list. They wanted:
Their alfresco looked great, but the open sides held it back. Sun, wind and passing eyes all cut into how often they used it. Outdoor blinds solved each of those problems in one go.
We looked at how the family used the space and where the sun and wind came from. Then we set out the blinds to suit.
The screens close in the sides that face the pool and the neighbours. That gives the family shade and privacy where they need it most. The mesh still lets you see out to the pool and garden, so the space never feels boxed in.
We chose Zipscreen Extreme for this job because it is built for larger openings. The alfresco has wide spans, so the blinds needed a strong track system and a tidy headbox to match. This is what keeps the screens firm and neat across a big opening.

Good blinds are about more than fabric. Here is what went into this job and what each part does for you.
Zipscreen Extreme is a track-guided outdoor blind. The edges of the mesh are held inside side channels, so there are no gaps down the sides and the screen holds firm when the wind picks up. This makes it a strong choice for a poolside spot that catches the breeze.
The mesh blocks a lot of the sun and glare while you can still see through it to the pool and garden. It also adds a real layer of privacy from the neighbours. Drop the blinds for shade and cover, or roll them up to open the space right back out.
The blinds roll up into a 160mm headbox at the top. The larger box suits the wide openings on this alfresco and keeps the rolled-up screen tidy and protected. When the blinds are up, the headbox gives a clean, built-in look rather than an exposed roll.
The side tracks are the key to how these blinds perform. They hold the mesh in place from top to bottom. That stops the screen flapping in the wind and keeps a straight, even finish across the whole opening. It is what makes the space feel like a proper room when the blinds are down.
Outdoor blinds give you a lot for a fairly simple change.
They add usable living space. The alfresco now works as a proper outdoor room, not just an open edge by the pool.
They help you use the space year-round. Drop the blinds to keep off the sun, the wind and light rain, and the area stays comfortable for longer through the year.
They give you privacy. The mesh screens the space from the neighbours while you can still see out to your own pool and garden.
They are easy to live with. Put the blinds down when you want cover, and roll them up when you want the space fully open. You get to choose how open or closed the room feels each day.

Zipscreen blinds run inside side tracks, so they hold firm in wind far better than open blinds. The mesh blocks a lot of sun and light rain while you can still see out. For heavy, driving rain you would look at a solid roof as well, and we can talk you through the options.
Yes. The mesh lets you see through to the pool and garden during the day while it screens the space from the sun and the neighbours. You keep the view and gain privacy at the same time.
